SpyWare is installed "piggy backed" along with popular programs such as KaZaA, GrokSter, iMesh, Opera and others.  The reason they do this is because the SpyWare companies pay P2P companies like KaZaA for every install of the SpyWare onto a users computer.

Our Spyware software will remove the SpyWare, AdWare, KeyLoggers, Browser Hijackers, and  MalWare on your computer without harming the operation of the host application that you downloaded, such as KaZaA in this example.

Adware programs are not listed as virus and therfore programs like Norton and Mcafee will not pick them up in their scanners. Some Spyware programs are picked up with virus scanners but there is such a fine line between Adware and Spyware that it's hard to tell them apart.

Most Spyware is actually Adware. It's a term most people use even though there is real Spyware that will try and log your passwords and credit card information. These programs generally fall under the term "Trojens".
